UN side event co-sponsored by GAGV to focus on the gun industry and human rights

July 7, 2023

(WASHINGTON) As part of the United Nation’s 53rd session of the Human Rights Council, Global Action on Gun Violence (GAGV), the state of Mexico, and Global Initiatives against Transnational Organized Crime will hold a side event to discuss irresponsible gun industry practices as a human rights concern. The event will take place on Monday, July 10, at noon (CEST) in Room XXV of the Palais des Nations.

In advance of HRC 53, the UN High Commission on Human Rights released a detailed report on the “impact of the civilian acquisition, possession and use of firearms,” which draws on input from GAGV. The report marked the first time that the UN addressed the gun industry’s complicity in fueling violence around the world.
